Travel Study

Leading the Way

For over 20 years, حوإ¼½م½م has led the way among the state’s community colleges in travel study opportunities. Our Honors Institute has offered a long-running, and ongoing, program for students to spend spring break in Southwest England while earning course credit. Our “sister college,â€‌ Bridgwater and Taunton College, has partnered with حوإ¼½م½م as we have developed new educational programs together, fostered economic relationships with our surrounding industries, and created staff development opportunities. It’s not unusual for a cohort of British students and faculty to descend on the حوإ¼½م½م campuses in the spring semester and join our own students in some of their classes.

In summer 2024, حوإ¼½م½م sent its first cohort of students and faculty to Yellowstone National Park for a weeklong field experience. The group hiked through the park’s unique terrain to learn about its volatile, volcanic features and to observe wildlife that one would never encounter in Raymond, Mississippi. Students were guided and lectured by a wildlife biologist who studies in the park fulltime. Students earned biology credit for their time in the field and in the classroom sessions leading up to the travel. We hope to make Yellowstone an annual destination for حوإ¼½م½م Honors Institute students.
