Fresh Surge in Kolkata Office Space Demand – At Record High Post Covid

Kolkata: Kolkata seems to witness a bigger and more impressive job market as strong indications are coming from the increased demand for office space. According to the report, office space demand in the state’s tech hub Salt Lake Sector 5 and New Town-Rajarhat is at its highest in the last 10 years. Even the central business district of Kolkata encompassing Esplanade – Dalhousie, Park Street is slated to get some of the posh commercial dwellings.

Incidentally, Kolkata’s demand for office space reached at 9-year high, with 1.4 million sqft leased last year. Last highest demand was recorded in 2019, when 1.3 million sqft was leased in Kolkata. Further, the demand for premium office space in Sector V and New Town has pushed up rents by 11% during the year, the highest growth in the country.

It may be noted that several companies, including Mindtree, Genpact, Capgemini and Concentrix, had taken up substantial space in the IT hubs in Kolkata in the past year. Experts cited that many companies are looking for ready-to-move commercial spaces and Kolkata’s affordable commercial real estate market is making it a choice to open offices in the IT hub of the city.

Elaborating on this, Mr Adarsh Bhagat, Director at Ginni Realty Projects Pvt Ltd said, “With the influx of businesses and employment opportunities the demand for residential and commercial spaces increases proportionately. Moreover, a commutable commercial space, world class amenities also enhance the working environment”.
