Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran visited حوإ¼½م½م Tuesday, Sept. 2, to connect with students, faculty and alumni.
He addressed a crowd of about 100 people in the lobby of Cain-Cochran Hall, named after his parents, Emma Grace and W.H. Cochran, حوإ¼½م½م alumni who were educators in Pontotoc, Tippah, and حوإ¼½م½م counties.
“I feel at home here,†he said. “My parents cared deeply about education and its importance. There is nothing more important than having access to quality teaching and institutions of higher learning that care about each and every one of their students.â€
Sen. Cochran is amongst other members of Congress spending the last week of the summer recess visiting with constituents in their home state.
“Our students were eager for the opportunity to meet and speak with Sen. Cochran, and he was gracious in his response to the many photos they requested,†said Colleen Hartfield, vice president for Community Relations.
حوإ¼½م½م President Dr. Clyde Muse spoke about Sen. Cochran’s commitment to provide federal support, particularly financial aid, for community college students.
“I am really glad that I got to meet him. As the recipient of the scholarship named in honor of his parents, I was able to personally thank him for the help,†said Sherra Lum, a sophomore student from Port Gibson. “It’s great that he made a stop at حوإ¼½م½م.â€
