Child Care & Family Education
Overview
The Child Care & Family Education Area of Study is for those wanting a career in a field related to early childhood education (birth through 8 years, including Pre-K/K). These fields include child and family sciences, early childhood development, and child care and family education. A degree in child development will explore the growth and development of children within the family system and with sociocultural influences.
A career in this field will allow for work in public, private, or non-profit settings. Some transfer programs are also designed to meet the professional competency standards for licensure in Mississippi. There are varied career opportunities in this area, including but not limited to preschool teacher/administrator, child life specialist, childcare teacher/administrator, family life specialist, child welfare caseworker, child care insurance agent, parent education program designer, or consultant to businesses dealing with children.
You will be introduced to the general early childhood curriculum that builds the foundation for upper-level child growth and development courses, clinical experiences, and internships upon transfer while completing the general education requirements required for most baccalaureate degrees.
